As one of the most popular basketball brands, SPALDING basketball is favored by both professional and amateur basketball players and fans worldwide, and also a target for counterfeit sellers. Recently, SGG LISCO LLC, the manufacturer of the SPALDING basketballs, has entrusted Unitalen to take large-scale anti-counterfeiting actions against fake SPALDING basketballs in Beijing, Shenyang and Zhengzhou together, with the cooperation of local Administrations for Industry and Commerce (AIC). There are 1,509 counterfeit basketballs bearing SPALDING trademark seized in the actions.
The anti-counterfeiting actions caused great deterrent to counterfeit sellers. Many sellers promised that they will no longer sell counterfeit basketballs. Also, the administrators of the local market will assist in watching the market in future.
On April 26th, 2007, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce published the Ten Typical Cases Regarding the Foreign Trademark Rights Protected by Administration for Industry and Commerce in 2006, among which, SPALDING anti-counterfeiting actions with assistance of Unitalen in March 2006 is on the list. A year later, SPALDING again took further anti-counterfeiting actions in the three cities in a deeper and larger scale. According to a spokesman of the SGG LISCO LLC, the company has confidence in the protection of enterprises’ legitimate rights under China’s laws. Also, they will keep going on the road of taking the anti-counterfeiting actions firmly, in order not to damage the consumers’ rights.
